Concussions are a difficult injury. Long beyond the first rest period required by protocols, persistent post-concussion symptoms can have a significant impact on your quality of life. The brain is housed in the skull and supported by the neck, and the structural mechanics of these areas can frequently provide the key to recovery.
When a concussive force strikes the skull, the energy is absorbed by the entire body. The upper cervical spine frequently locks up as a defensive mechanism (whiplash effect), reducing blood and lymphatic flow to and from the brain. Furthermore, the dural membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord may become stretched, affecting cerebrospinal fluid dynamics.
Our osteopathy method focuses on restoring the structural environment around the nervous system. By reducing mechanical limitations in the skull, neck, and thorax, we improve circulatory and fluid outflow, removing impediments to the brain’s natural healing processes.
Cranial sacral therapy is a key component of our post-concussion treatment. This incredibly delicate, non-invasive treatment assesses and improves the functioning of the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It promotes the dissipation of residual trauma, allowing the central nervous system to relax, downregulate, and stabilise.
Cranial sacral therapy is a key component of our post-concussion treatment.
Gentle cranial mechanics, dural release, and upper-cervical balance are used to help regulate the neurological system.
Changes in tissue tension, breathing rate, and subjective symptom decrease will be monitored.
Pacing tactics, sensory control, and modest nervous system support activities are provided in between sessions.
